Heritage Home Peeling Windows & Weatherboards
Heritage Home Painted White & Green

The house painters have been awarded the prestigious Master Painters Gold Award for our work on this character home in Takapuna.

Once a home is presented to The Master Painters for consideration every inch of it is then meticulously critiqued, analysed, and photographed by 2 independent judges to ensure that any award given is due to outstanding quality and workmanship.

The home that the house painters entered was a 128-year-old icon of Takapuna. Every day progress was keenly watched by passers-by and the house painters heard numerous stories of the home’s many lives.

When we finally revealed the finished home on a Facebook post we were overwhelmed by the positive response. People had watched the progress and were amazed at the incredible transformation.

HISTORY

Constructed in 1890, the home has been in the same family for 5 generations and was only sold due to the family running out of heirs.

Originally built for Caroline Green it was passed on to her daughter Maud, whose husband Frank Moren was the original Pumphouse engineer. His daughter Hilda, and her husband Rudall Hayward, who is considered a pioneer in NZ film making inherited the property, and then it was passed through the family.

Over the years the home had been converted into separate flats but had fallen into a very neglected state. The Victorian-style home did retain the original grand front door, wooden floors, bay windows, panelled ceilings, sash windows and incredibly the six original fireplaces.

CONDITION

After years of neglect the exterior of this home was in extremely poor condition.  The green sash windows were covered in peeling, failing paint. The original rough sawn weatherboards were surprisingly resilient to the battering from the weather but the newer boards on the front of the property would require complete stripping. Over its 128 years the original entrance doors would have welcomed so many people that it was important to restore this gateway to their former glory.

PREPARATION

Every single inch of this home was meticulously prepared to ensure a Master Painters quality finish. All peeling paint from the sash windows were stripped back to bare wood. The entire front of the property had all the paint removed. The attention to detail on the original entrance door is phenomenal. The preparation work carried out on this property is the highest standard you will ever see!

THE FINISH

After the sanding, scraping, priming and filling is done the final finish is breathtaking. Every single square inch of this Historical Victorian home has been painstakingly prepared and painted to a Master Painters Gold Standard of quality.

Quality work is cheaper than poor work done twice!
